Incoming Birthday Blues

Okay, I nearly forgot about this for a while now, but it appears that my birthday is just a few days from now. It’s on June 18, but it was originally placed as June 5 back home.

In case if anyone is curious, back in where I was from in my world, we had originally used a different calendar system from most of the world which has us behind by 13 days at most. Long story short, the new people ruling over my country had decided to change it to match up with the rest of the world. Since I had no memory of my past by that point, I nearly forgot about the day I was born until some time ago before coming to the Index.

But I have a problem right now: I just don’t know how to celebrate it without anyone else from home. Does anybody here have any suggestion for me to consider?

Wow that sounds kind of confusing. How did people not get confused with a new calendar? And if you're looking for a way to celebrate, maybe when we go back to the Index you could throw a party?

That’s a good question: I guess the people in charge made it mandatory for everyone to adjust their calendars. It did took a while for the people to get used to it.

Hey, why haven’t I thought about it in the first place? That sounds like a great idea. I know that my cottage in the Index isn’t huge in size, but it is still roomy enough to host a party.

That just sounds kind of foolish though. I mean, why change the calendar to something completely different if the old one was fine?

Yeah! I know that some people have held parties and barbecues when we got back to the Index before, so it could be worth it. And if your house isn't big enough, maybe you could have something nearby? I know there's a couple clearings in the woods that can work for gatherings.

I was thinking about the same thing as you do too: if the old system works for us well before, why bother changing it at all? Sadly, that’s a reality my homeland has to deal with: it’s very complicated to discuss it in full detail, but it’s safe to say that those people in charge can be very strict for the most part.

I do have a clearing not far from my cottage: not sure if someone else owns it or not, but I’ll give it a good look once we get back, and I do take my dog to have walks in there as well.

Huh... I see. That seems pretty complicated, but I can understand people in charge being strict. That's not very fun to deal with.

That does sound like a good idea! And if someone does own it, maybe you could ask them if you could borrow it for an afternoon. I'm sure it should be okay if you ask nicely.

My essence came from an old Russian folk tale that I learned about from home, I’m originally from Russia by the way.

Her story has her crossed paths with a witch named Baba Yaga who had her try to do difficult tasks if she wants to get some light for her step family.

Russia is actually a country in my world, there are many countries in there as well.

Yeah, it is a large world with many people from different cultures and lives living in one place.

That’s really nice to know: I’m hoping to look forward to see more stories upon visiting the Library again real soon. I think that I must’ve read multiple stories before I found out what my Essence is.
